One of the most exciting fights never to have taken place would have been between these two MMA warriors. During their prime Fedor Emelianenko and Chuck Liddell were two of the most feared men in their respective weight divisions. Fedor Emelianenko was a heavyweight but could really have fought at light-heavyweight while Chuck Liddell ruled the UFC’s 205 division with a vice grip. There would have been nothing short of fireworks had these two fighters paths crossed.
Fedor was a legend in Pride. His battles again Mirko Cro Cop, Kevin Randleman, and Minotauro Nogueira are legendary. The slam he survived against Kevin Randleman has been an MMA highlight reel for years. Fedor’s stand up was excellent, his wrestling was very good but his Jiu-Jitsu was his best weapon having submitted the likes of Mark Coleman (twice,) Kevin Randleman and Matt Lindland. Fedor was a truly well rounded fighter.
Chuck Liddell on the other hand was a specialist at stand up. Liddell was able to knockout any man with one punch and his overhead right became his trademark move. Liddell rarely went for takedowns in his fights and was rarely taken down himself as he had great takedown defence. He has had legendary matches against Randy Couture, Wanderlei Silva and Tito Ortiz just to name a few.
The match between these two legends would be very tactical initially. Fedor would be happy to keep the match standing in order to test himself against a world class striker like Liddell. Fedor was never afraid to enter the realm of an opponent which they were alleged to be strongest. Liddell would be very carefully initially also not wanting to over commit to anything which would leave him exposed to a takedown. We at ‘How to get in the UFC’ believe that once the first real hard shot connects with either man that all caution would then fly out of the window. The fight would then turn into a back and forth slug fest and the fans would go wild.
The match would then go into the second round and be exactly like the first. The only difference is that Fedor would rock twice Liddell but Liddell would survive to take the match into a third round. The third round would be extremely tight. Fedor would score a couple of takedowns which would frustrate Liddell. The match would live up to all the hype but ultimately Fedor would win this battle of legends by decision.
